Whenever you pick a day or days from our schedule, we will pencil you in and send you an invoice for a deposit. Deposits are $50 per day of booked recording. The deposit must be paid by the due date in order to confirm your session. Any unpaid deposits by due dates will cause those scheduled dates to open back up for other bands. Please pay deposits on time. Thank you!
Several factors play into the amount of time needed to get the exact recording that you are looking for. The average amount of time bands typically need is 1 to 1.5 days per song ($400 to $650 per song). Some bands can get the great sound they are looking for in an average of 4 or 5 hours per song ($200 to $350 per song). Some indie rock and hardcore bands need to sound raw to capture the power of the music and vocals, and one way to get that great raw recording is to keep it simple, not over compressing or perfecting everything. This obviously takes less time to record, mix, and master.
Other bands want a high end, pop polish. Sometimes, indie pop or straight pop artists can spend between 2 and 4 days per song ($800 to $1600 per song). We can work with your budget. We are very good at taking a project exactly where it needs to go within the budget that you have. If we cannot get the sound you desire within your budget and timeframe, we will tell you straight up before we even book the time. If you are not sure how much time you will need, it is very important that you fill out the form on the right side of this page so that we can get our minds around your project and give you a realistic budget. It usually helps to have a conversation over the phone as well, so please fill out the form and we will call you back.
If you are concerned about the cost, please give us a call at 513-439-7853. There are several creative ways to save time and money in order to record a good album on a tight budget. The way it works is similar to mp3 compression if you are familiar. We will analyze all of the needs of the band and focus on the most important things, while letting less important things fall into the background in order to get the best quality for the tightest budget. We work very fast at a very high level. One of the most common compliments we get is that bands feel "extremely comfortable" while recording. We are great at getting the best performance out of each performer and comfort is a huge part of that. This is true even on a budget. We look forward to working with you! - Eric

We do offer mixing on projects that are not recorded at Moonlight. Mixing varies from band to band, song to song, album to album. It's impossible for us to quote an exact mixing price without having a discussion. However, we can tell you that historically, songs cost between $200 and $500 each for mixing/mastering or just for mixing. If you mix through us, mastering is included.
Quality
If you are looking to record music, please don’t ignore quality. Your music is everything you have, so why risk your chances of getting what’s in your head into people’s ears? Just take a listen to our Spotify playlist and you will see that we have a very high standard of sound quality.
Comfort
Band after band has said that they feel extremely comfortable working at Moonlight. Over the years, several of our clients have tried going out of town to work with big name producers, only to come back to Moonlight because they are most comfortable in our studio (and we sound better). When an artist is comfortable, they will be able to perform at their highest potential and capture their best performances.
Cost
We work fast and efficiently at a price that is lower than most other studios in the area. From the beginning of Moonlight, it has been a goal of ours to keep expenses down so we can pass the savings along to our bands and artists. This enables you to spend more time on each song which promotes a comfortable and creative environment with the best results.
Experience
We have been recording bands for over 15 years now and have written and co-written hundreds of songs. Eric’s band, Kevin and the Octaves, has had over 30 placements in TV shows, movie trailers, and video games (Burn Notice, The Good Wife, Shameless, Lie To Me, We Own the Night, Jackass 3D, Knocked Up, and many more). We understand music and what it takes to take a song from good to great.
